The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is the food safety legislation passed by the U.S. in 2016 that changes the existing approach from reacting to problems caused by food purchased from other countries to preventing them. One of the main novelties of this law is that it requires the exporting company to have a qualified individual who is responsible for food safety manuals and is recognised by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), as Qualified Individual in Preventive Controls.
